In an atmospheric performance of dance and music, six atua wāhine (female deities) control and release the winds of the world.
Inspired by a Kāi Tahu tradition, as told by Teone Taare Tikao, Onepū has been co-created by celebrated choreographer and dancer Louise Potiki Bryant, who is also the show’s video artist.
Adding to this expression of mana wāhine (the intrinsic power of women), is a musical landscape by composer, vocalist and taonga pūoro artist Ariana Tikao (in collaboration with Paddy Free).
This work from Atamira Dance Company is a meditation on the different qualities brought to us on the winds of each these mighty atua wāhine.
Joining Louise in this spirited and powerful work are the five other dancers – Dolina Wehipeihana, Rosie Tapsell, Presley Ziogas, Imogen Tapara and Jessica Johns.
Embracing this ancient story through light, video, sound and movement, Onepū will stir deep emotions and take audiences to another place and time.
